The <var>GenericNamedArraylist</var> class is a system abstract base class of the <var>[[NamedArraylist class|NamedArraylist]]</var> class, the <var>[[FloatNamedArraylist class|FloatNamedArraylist]]</var> class, and the <var>[[UnicodeNamedArraylist class|UnicodeNamedArraylist]]</var> class. All these classes act like arrays, where the items in the array can be referenced by a "name" rather than an item number (though all items can also be [[ItemByNumber (GenericNamedArraylist property)|referenced by item number]].

Unlike <var>[[User Language]]</var> abstract classes, one cannot define variables with the type of the abstract class so that it is not possible to define a variable as <var>GenericNamedArraylist</var>. This means that, except for documentation purposes, the <var>GenericNamedArraylist</var> class is essentially hidden from <var>User Language</var> programmers.

The extension classes of the <var>GenericNamedArraylist</var> class only vary in the names used to reference the items, where the names of array items are of the following types:
