During initialization of the compression subsystem, <var class="product">[[Model 204]]</var> determined that the hardware DEFLATE Conversion Facility (the <var>DFLTCC</var> instruction) is not available on this processor. Deflate compression and inflate decompression will be performed by the equivalent software routines instead.<br />

The results produced are identical either way; only the CPU cost differs, with the software implementation costing substantially more than the hardware instruction. The facility is detected at initialization by testing facility bit&nbsp;151 of the stored facility list, and is available on IBM z15 and later processors.<br />

<b>Response:</b> None required if the processor is not expected to provide the facility. If hardware compression <i>is</i> expected, have the system programmers confirm that the processor provides the DEFLATE Conversion Facility and that it is made available to this operating system image; under a hypervisor the facility must also be exposed to the guest. Compare with <var>[[MSIR.1096]]</var>, which is issued when the facility is available.<br />
