An attempt was made to create an object instance of an abstract class. Abstract classes, as the name might suggest, cannot be instantiated. Possibly, the intent in the erroneous statement was to create an instance of an extension class and assign it to a variable of the extension class. In such a case, the extension class must be specified before the name of the constructor, using the %(classname): syntax.
