MSIR.1097  DFLTCC hardware compression not availab le

During initialization of the compression subsystem, Model 204 determined that the hardware DEFLATE Conversion Facility (the DFLTCC instruction) is not available on this processor. Deflate compression and inflate decompression will be performed by the equivalent software routines instead.

The results produced are identical either way; only the CPU cost differs, with the software implementation costing substantially more than the hardware instruction. The facility is detected at initialization by testing facility bit 151 of the stored facility list, and is available on IBM z15 and later processors.

Response: None required if the processor is not expected to provide the facility. If hardware compression is expected, have the system programmers confirm that the processor provides the DEFLATE Conversion Facility and that it is made available to this operating system image; under a hypervisor the facility must also be exposed to the guest. Compare with MSIR.1096, which is issued when the facility is available.
